On Friday, March 21st, the book-based movie, Divergent was released. The movie is based the best selling series by Veronica Roth, who wrote the first book 4 years ago. It was an amazing experience, and the director -Neil Burger- did an amazing job. The filming was terrific as were the actors. They each really captured their character’s essence and personality more or less. The editing was clean and the fighting scenes looked realistic and interesting. Even though they squeezed in all the interesting scenes and the important ones into 2 hours, almost 3, the movie concept was fairly clear for viewers who haven’t read the book. The movie had many intense, emotional scenes, but also very humorous ones. But, A few things that I felt they could have improved on was the pacing. They chose the right scenes, but, it went a bit too fast. Another thing they could have improved on was character and relationship building. I felt that they could have shown the development between Tris’ and Four’s character more. For viewers who haven’t read the book, they wouldn’t know the full story and I believe they would think the relationship was too rushed. Also, I think they didn’t show the full relationship between Four and Marcus (Four’s father). I don’t think they showed enough of their story or showed enough of how Marcus really hurt Four or Four’s hate for his father. I also didn’t like how we didn’t see much of Caleb as, he is a big part in the rest of the books. Also, they did miss a few important scenes like ButterKnifeing Edward and Four drunk and tris' fears. I also think that some of the characters such as Molly didn't act as they were supposed to act toward Tris; Molly wasn't mean enough. I would also have liked to get to know some of the Dauntless born a little better such as Uriah. Though, other than that, more or less, it was a great movie. A few of my favourite scenes would be the jump into Dauntless, the jump Christina and Tris did off the train, the fighting scenes, the beginning and the ending; the last part on the last train where she’s narrating again.
