[edit] This Lullaby. Sara Dessen.
Sara Dessen as you may know, writes brilliant, romance novels. This Lullaby was my first Dessen novel and I think, it was pretty good. Not the best, but, pretty good. The story is told from 18 year old Remy Starr's perspective. Remy is a cold, hard shell. She dates boys just to dump them, she doesn't believe in love given the fact that her mother is on her 5th marrige. Remy soon meets Dexter though, and, she realizes something totally different.
Okay, so, I think this novel was... well, you wouldn't really call it a 'fluffy' read, but it wasn't action packed either. Sara's writing was very cool. She had this element of metaphors and a moral to the story. The story itself was pretty good, but there were flaws.
The main character, Remy, was pretty cold hearted. She dated aton of guys just to basically dump them. She had it all planned out; seeing if they were a whiner, cryer, fighter, and she had the time set of when she would dump them. I could kind of understand where she was coming from, after all, her mom's basically proven that relationships are non-exsistant. But, at times during the story, she would become to cold, or too tough. You just couldn't relate to her then.
Dexton was nice enough. I found myself lacking in understanding of the character. He seemed like a very try-harder person.
I did like the mother. She was something. A little bit needy and annoying but, she gave great advice.
I think Dessen's books are for those breakfast at midnight times when you want a lighter story.
